I decided instead of tales from the couch, I would write about how I think the rest of the season will go for college football. So, lets go over the teams that I think have a legit CFB Playoff shot, and then I'll tell you who I think gets there. I think there are 11 teams with a legit shot at the playoff, and then there are a bunch of teams that can make noise, just simply because of how wide open the field is so far. This is in no order by the way.
Team 1: Florida State
Barring some really bad health luck, they have a really, really clear shot to get to the playoff. They will be favored in every game, and they might be touchdown favorites in all of them. It is scary because, I really don't think they have played their best football yet. Their ground game has been not good compared to last year, and their passing game has been too reliant on Keon Coleman/Johnny Wilson. But, they have really set themselves up to be in position come December.
Team 2: Texas
I am finally feeling good about being hyped about Texas in the preseason, and even with a tough stretch coming they are undefeated and playing some of the best ball in the country. But, this is where Texas could easily blow their best chance in a long time.
Teams 3, 4, and 5: Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State
I am grouping these teams, as they all are undefeated, clearly talented enough, and all play each other. I think the top team will rise, but the chaos possibility where they all beat each other would be hilarious.
Teams 6, 7, 8, and 9: USC, Washington, Oregon, and Utah
Pac-12 chaos! All of these teams have showed me something, and by something I mean some legit play that makes me think the Pac will be back in the playoff. This would be the peak Pac-12 cannibalizes itself season if a team somehow doesn't make it through.
Team 10: Georgia
They don't play anybody. If this team is not in the playoff, I will be shocked.
Team 11: Alabama
Yep, I know. The world is falling apart on them. But, tell me this- if they run the table, do you seriously think the CFP would leave them out? I doubt they do, but it certainly is not off the table. And yes, I do not consider LSU to be a serious CFP contender, they are in my next tier list.
Make Noise Tier (No Order): Duke, UNC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Washington State, Oregon State, UCLA, LSU, and Texas A&M.
Who would I take to make it right now?
The four I think that will be there in December are Georgia, Oregon, Michigan, and the ACC Champion.
As for a fun side one, here is my guess and a longshot for the Heisman Trophy.
Current Prediction: Michael Penix Jr, +400
Longshot: Drake Maye, +3500
